What is ‘Shamal’?

Shamal is an IT Information System designed from the ground up to meet all of KFZ’s reporting, analysis and data needs, providing the tools required to carry out monitoring & evaluation, as well as control of the projects in the field. It consists of many web based and other applications that users can access via the internet, allowing them to gather information, analysis and insights on which to base program & project decisions using accurate and timely data.

Components

The system has several components which are used to analyze, capture, validate and report on information required by KFZ. The central core of the system is the data engine, which is used to manage most of the KFZ data holdings. Additionally Shamal has a GIS suite of tools, a document management system, its own image and video gallery and web pages. Shamal also has the capability to capture data in the field using smart phones, allowing rapid collection of information directly into the system, enabling analysis to be carried out instantly.

Geo Portal

The portal for ArcGIS helps you organize and share information throughout your organization with those who need it via maps and apps. It provides a framework to easily manage and secure geographic assets within your organization, enabling better decision making.

Document Management

A new bespoke document & file management application has been developed to assist users, where offline capability and synchronization has been added to the system.
